A while coming, but I’ve finally given the website a much needed refresh. The main aim was to simplify the layout and navigation - there are now separate pages for painting, drawing and illustration, plus an updated Bio and finally, a new Studio page for the curious!
Radio Times - Rocket Fuel
A recent commission from Radio Times for a documentary about space exploration and the practicalities of how we could go further into space, potentially using asteroids as self-serving fuelling stations. Thoroughly enjoyed working a fantastical 1950s Sci-Fi influence into this proposed form of spacecraft fuelling.
Three sketches submitted, exploring the different compositions... No1 chosen as the plug and single rocket got the message across directly, and work best in the small repro space.
Universal & Hammer Movie Monsters!
Especially for Halloween, here be Movie Monsters... A recent commission expanded into ten monster portraits inspired by the iconic imagery from the classic Universal Studios & Hammer Horror movies - plus, combined with an influence from the range of 1960's self assembly AURORA plastic model kits and their wonderfully kitsch cover art by James Bama.
The aim was to create highly stylised affectionate character illustrations to celebrate the genre as opposed to realistic portraits of the actors associated with these roles. The full set can be seen on Behance and in my portfolio.
With this set of images I wanted to focus on rendering in Photoshop almost exclusively, while also exploring custom made textured brushes in a little more depth - and only dipping into Adobe Illustrator where necessary.
Co-Starring (apologies - had to!)...
Frankenstein's monster, Bride of Frankenstein, The Devil, The Wolfman, The Mummy, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Zombie, The Abominable Snowman and The Creature From The Black Lagoon!
Also, many thanks to the Altpick.com for including this work in their Halloween celebration - Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolfman and a Zombie all feature!

Delighted at the recently received news that three of my demon images have been selected for the thirteenth annual 3x3 International Illustration Show. More info on the 3x3 Illustration Awards and magazine here.
Radio Times Christmas Edition: Jay Rayner Pigs Out
Lovely commission for the Christmas edition of the Radio Times - Boxing Day Archive on 4: Jay Rayner Pigs Out. Programme synopsis: "The journalist and food critic presents a portrait of Britain’s unusual relationship with the pig, from 1998’s fugitive porkers the Tamworth Two to the poetry of Dylan Thomas and the porcine dictators of George Orwell’s allegorical Animal Farm.
It was fun to play with this slightly anthropomorphised pig for the Radio Times Christmas edition, loosely based on Napoleon from George Orwell's Animal Farm. A tight overnight deadline with a render time of roughly eight hours. A few colour combinations were played with and supplied.
